View Itinerary

Throughout our tours you will be immersed in Berber and desert cultures mingling with modern ways of life, closely tied to ancient traditions. You will visit souks (markets), Imperial cities, stay in medina hotels, country auberge and riads. All transport by a very comfortable large 4x4 cars with driver, gasoil, and air conditioning. Tours leave and return to Marrakech and Fes or Casablanca. Tours run with a minimum of two persons. Group tours available.

We use small, family run hotels, auberge and riads (ensuite + air con) that are of interest because of location, excellent food, and unique traditional architecture; similar to quiet village centered exotic B and B’s. Generally speaking the food in Morocco is excellent and reflects traditional cooking. Vegetarians welcome.

7 day ITINERARY - Book this tour
8 days adds one more night in the desert.

Day 1
Arrive Marrakech. Evening drums will draw you to the Djemaa El Fna (main city square) where a festival atmosphere awaits. Plunge past the snake charmers and have your fortune told, listen to Berber and Gnoua musicians, or storytellers, or watch the "exotic" dancers illuminated by lamplight and wreathed in smoke. Food stall meals range from a bevy of fresh salads, harrira (lentil and bean soups) fried fish and chips (Moroccan style) to kebabs and even sheep's head (a speciality that has its own dedicated stalls). Stay Marrakech ancient medina in the heart of the old city. Your riad (old house) has a central, tiled, courtyard, with breakfast served on a rooftop terrace.

Day 2
Depart early morning (3 hours) and head for the High Atlas passes, where Ait Benhaddou, World Heritage Site of Kasbahs (used as a backdrop for more than 20 films) sits perched on the Old Salt caravan trail. After lunch transport (2 hours) to Dades, a small valley with stunning rock formations. You will pass through many Berber villages, and once in the desert, see riverside oasis and barren hillsides clustered with ksours (fortified dwellings that house many families and their livestock). Stay in old kasbah, with dinner beside the pool.

Day 3
Morning departure after breakfast (1 hour) to visit Todra gorge, a massive fault dividing the Atlas mountains, rising to 300 m. Walk among Tinehir palmeries, gardens, Berber villages and old kasbahs. After lunch transport (2 hours) further into a desert auberge near the tiny village of Merzouga, and take your camels at sunset into the glowing Erg Chebbi dunes for a traditional nomad tajine dinner under the stars. You will sleep in traditional nomad tents, with modern comforts, mattress and sheets. Auberge overnight is optional with sunset camel trek into the dunes.

Day 4
Return by camel at sunrise the next morning to desert auberge for breakfast and shower, then transport (7 hours) back to Marrakech. Stay Marrakech medina riad.

Day 5
Explore Marrakech. Visit Majorelle gardens, Ben Youssef Medersa and the Marrakech Museum. Afternoon explore the Jemma El Fna and the vast Souk. The Souk is comprised of many specialist areas e.g. metalwork, where crafters ply their trade; dyers workshops are strung with colourful skeins of wool; carpets, and carpet sellers entice you into their shops with a cup of mint tea; search tiny shops selling Berber jewellery, old silver, and African beads; or spices, olives, fresh herbs; or traditional apothecaries where you can buy all manner of potions to heal or cast spells of love or revenge. Stay Marrakech medina riad.

Day 6
Day trip to Essaouira (3 hours one way), a relaxing town set on the Atlantic coast with an expansive golden beach popular with surfers; famous for its seafood, thuja wood crafts and artists colony. Old Portuguese ramparts guard the walled city where you can watch silver craftsmen and wood carvers at work in one of the most charming medinas in all of Morocco. Visit a traditional pharmacy and learn about natural medicines and cures, and a Women’s cooperative where Argan nuts are processed by hand into one of the rarest oils in the world. Stay Marrakech medina riad.

Day 07 Depart or add on one or more days.

We just wanted to take a moment to say - "Thank you Morocco Explored for your professionalism and well organized tours. We thoroughly enjoyed taking our journeys with your company We wouldn't have been able to have seen as much of Morocco on our own and/or experienced as
much if we had not used your services. Your personal attention to detail made our "adventure" something to remember! We especially want to thank Hamou and Essalah for all the laughs (and there was a lot of
that!) plus their wealth of information was invaluable!"

The highlight of our vacation was sleeping out under the stars in the Sahara desert - a totally different and wonderful experience for us city girls!! If you are looking to get away from the city (run away!), then the desert is the place to be.

All the best from the Big Apple. Shukran! SHUKRAN!!

Our trip to Morocco has been our favorite vacation of all time! We still talk (and dream) about our amazing adventures there. Essalah, Hamou, and the fact that Morocco Explored did all the trip planning really made all the difference. Hamou was a fantastic guide and we learned a great deal about Moroccan life, culture and history.
Thank you!!!

We have recently returned from our trip and wanted to let you know that we had a FANTASTIC time. The itinerary you put together was perfect and we felt that each day allowed us to learn more about the country and the culture of the people. In addition, each of the four drivers we had added a different dimension to our trip which we enjoyed greatly.

I apologize again for all the e-mails I had sent to you and would like to tell you once again how much I appreciate the time you put forth in promptly replying to them.

I have already done some advertising for Morocco Explored as I showed the Morocco photos from our camera to a woman who sat near me on the plane ride home from Lisbon then wrote down the website address for her since she expressed interest in a future trip to Morocco. Feel free to give our names to anyone who may ask for references as I would be more than happy to promote your company.

The tour as a whole was absolutely wonderful, fascinating, unbelievable! Folks in our small town in the southern U.S. cannot possible understand the magnitude of the fabulous sites, cultures, and people we experienced during our Morocco Explored tour. Our very busy itinerary allowed us to experience so much of Morocco and its' exceptional beauty and the amazing natural and ancient sites. Everywhere, the people seemed kind, unhurried and pleased to welcome us.

Your help and insight with our (7 day) itinerary was so correct. It was a lot of driving, but we wanted to see and do all we could during our Morocco visit. We felt we had an excellent overview of Morocco and the vast differences within: gorgeous coast, Sahara, desert areas, oasis, High Atlas mountains (some snow), Anti-Atlas scrub, farm land, Argon trees and surrounding area, Atlantic ports, busy cities and quaint kasbahs and villages.

THANKS for such a great, memorable vacation with grown children. Someday I hope to return to Morocco for an extended time in order to enjoy each beautiful area of this varied country.

On the whole, our trip was fantastic - thank you very much! The people we met were so very nice, and the scenery was unique and unlike anything we've seen before. Once I got used to the practice of haggling, that was fun too.

Although no one in my family speaks (much) French, Arabic or Berber, we had no trouble meeting and interacting with the locals - in fact it increased the charm of the trip.

Ouzoud - WOW!!! What an amazing place... the hotel was also fabulous. I think the sitting area on the second floor is my favorite place in Morocco. I could spend hours there just sitting looking into the valley and listening to the water fall. I really regret not spending 3 days in Ouzoud.

We got to Merzouga late (8 pm) after stopping at Essalah's house. His family was amazingly kind and at the end of the visit, I felt I had a new set of family. What tremendous people. When we left, I told Salah that it would be near impossible to top that experience. We started the camel trek late due to the long travel time and seeing the stars at night and the sun rise in the morning was exactly what I'd hoped.
